Doing What I Do Best?

Cooking, eating, and loving--or so my OkCupid profile would tell you.

So here I am, 1am on a Sunday night, creating a blog to document where this online dating profile has taken me--as well as the culinary creations my love life has inspired (or uninspired). Tonight I am at a particularly uninspired point. My scheduled date canceled, and therefore here I am laying in bed, eating brussel sprouts covered in I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-Butter spray, listening to the soundtrack from Rent. This is not good.

How did I get to this point? Well, microwaving brussel sprouts at 12:30am seemed like an obvious enough choice. Nothing like the foul-smelling mini-cabbage of my youth to cheer me up! Turns out brussel sprouts were a better idea in theory than in practice, mostly because my kitchen/room/bed now smells like a mildly dirty diaper.

But, more importantly, how did I get to this point of eating lonely vegetables in bed so late at night? Surely if I had had my date tonight, I wouldn't be eating said/sad vegetables. Surely it would have gone well, and it would have inevitably led to a magical second (dinner) date, and then on date number three I would let him come up to my apartment. Then, on date four he would meet my friends, and tell me he's really falling for me. Next thing you know, he's meeting my parents and inviting me to his house in the Hamptons for the 4th of July...

ISN'T THAT HOW IT WORKS?! Alas, that did not happen tonight. No date, no drinks, no future father of my children. My love life may have the opportunity to redeem itself this week--tentative dates scheduled for Monday and Thursday. Maybe tentative dates are the problem? I'll work on that. I'm also going go throw out the I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-Butter spray. I feel better already.
